Resistance is in the room… Resistance can be a Resistance is in the room…

Resistance can be a challenging behaviour to manage particularly if you are new to people management.

It shows up in many guises:

🤬Resistance to a new idea.
🤬Resistance to change.
🤬Resistance to new leadership.
🤬Resistance to feedback.
🤬Resistance to input from colleagues.
🤬Resistance to collaborate.
🤬Resistance to participate.

Often we look to manage that behaviour using the wrong approach. A command and control leadership style instead of exploring what’s sitting behind and driving the resistance.

The easiest way to understand it is to ask …why?

Taking time to discuss it will give your team member the chance to feel heard rather than shut down which will diffuse defensive reactions or dissipate fear.

It will also give you the opportunity to manage and talk it through, smoothly ironing out any blocks or hurdles you hit along the way.

If you would like some support managing difficult behaviours and conversations, why not buy my new Amazon best selling book📕:

‘And Breathe…’ Prevent, Manage and Master Difficult Leadership Conversations in Business and Beyond!

This is a call out today to all my HR friends… This is a call out today to all my HR friends…

HR I hear you! 🙋🏼‍♀️

I know a lot of ‘messy people issues’ land on your desk because a manager has messed up and pushed it your way to put right.

I also know HR aren’t always equipped to deal with conflict or difficult conversations because you may not be well versed in how to diffuse the situation or the best way to navigate it.

Often managers have either inadvertently escalated a minor problem into a crisis, done nothing about it until it’s too late or decided it’s not their responsibility.

So you are called upon to mop up their mess.

But let’s be honest, your role encompasses a vast range of responsibilities and unless you have been trained in mediation or conflict management specifically… why would you feel confident to manage tricky conversations without specialist training? 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you or your leadership team would like some support by way of bespoke training to support you to diffuse and deflect rather than detonate an issue in difficult conversations, please get in touch.
I’d love to have a coffee ☕️and a chat to talk it through.

In the meantime, you might be interested to know my new Amazon best selling book has just launched 🚀’And Breathe…’ Prevent, Manage and Master Difficult Leadership Conversations in Business and Beyond.

I don’t think there’s anything new about the c I don’t think there’s anything new about the current trend of ‘Quiet Quitters’…

In fact they’ve been around for years!

What is new however is that they have now been labelled. Identified. Singled out.

According to this latest fad, Quiet Quitters ‘don’t put themselves out or go above and beyond when it’s necessary’.

But is this totally their fault?

As a leader or manager don’t you think it’s your role to inspire and motivate to push your teams that little bit further?

👉🏻To support them to excel rather than plateau?

👉🏻To motivate and engage rather than point the finger of blame when they aren’t performing at their best?

👉🏻To find out what lights their passion and drives them?

👉🏻To help them find their mojo and their sense of purpose?

Do you know how… or are YOU quitting on them? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Apathy, resistance and attitude are challenging behaviours to manage. However they are often just a symptom that something else is lurking that needs some further exploration. This takes understanding, confidence and skill to navigate.

Remember, every behaviour is a window into our world.

If these conversations feel out of your comfort zone, help is at hand in my new Amazon best selling book:

‘And Breathe…’ Prevent, Manage and Master Difficult Leadership Conversations in Business and Beyond!

Do you manage a ‘Quiet Quitter’? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I never had the honour of meeting the Queen althou I never had the honour of meeting the Queen although I would have absolutely loved to!

I was privileged to do some work with the Royal Household several times over the years and always secretly hoped I might bump into her in the corridors! 😁

She embodied everything I think is important about leadership.
Poise, grace, dignity, humility, humour, courage and a reassuring sense of calm, particularly during times of crisis.

There were so many questions I was desperate to ask her although I’m sure I would have been star struck and fumbled clumsily through the conversation. 😂🤗

I admired the way she put everyone at ease. She was unflappable and dignified in the face of personal adversity. She shone and lifted our spirits in challenging times. She had a great sense of fun and managed many awkward situations with a charming twinkle in her eye. 😜✨

She was more than our monarch, she was our jewel. Today she has been laid to rest and reunited with her Prince.

Rest In Peace Your Majesty. You will be greatly missed by us all 💔👑.

What would you have asked her if you’d met her or if you were fortunate enough to have done so, what DID you ask her?
